How to choose anti floating color dispersant?
I、 Reasons for floating color phenomenon
The phenomenon of floating color occurs due to the large differences in particle size, density,
and surface tension between different pigments, resulting in upward or downward layering of
pigments, leading to abnormal concentration distribution of surface pigments and a floating
color on the surface.
II、 Conditions that must be met for anti floating colors
Has versatile adsorption capacity for various carbon black, inorganic, and organic pigments;
Dispersants should have a medium molecular weight. If the molecular weight is too small and
the steric hindrance is not sufficient, it will quickly coagulate and float. If the molecular weight is
too large, the system will not be able to reduce viscosity, and the flowability will not be smooth,
resulting in discoloration; The surface tension should be moderate, and if it is too strong, it will also
cause the formation of Bernhard vortices and floating colors.
III、 Recommended dispersants
1. Acrylic block copolymer type polymer dispersant has good pigment dispersibility and viscosity
reducing ability, and generally does not produce floating color. It is recommended to use dispersant
RK-4035; Modified polyurethane polymer dispersant has good anti floating properties for pigments,
good flocculation, and no color floating. Recommended dispersant RK-4036; Modified polyester
polymer dispersant with good compatibility, balanced with various pigments, excellent anti floating
performance, and no color loss in shades of yin and yang. Recommended dispersant RK-4033.
2. The principle of controlled flocculation dispersant mainly relies on the interaction between dispersant
molecules and pigment particles. It stably disperses pigment particles in the medium through chemical
adsorption, physical entanglement, and other methods. It is recommended to use dispersant RK-4004.
3. The principle of the flocculant type dispersant is mainly to prevent particle agglomeration through
electrostatic repulsion or steric hindrance mechanism, thereby improving the dispersion stability of
the system, reducing viscosity, and enhancing gloss and coloring power. It is recommended to use
dispersants RK-4059, RK-4039AC, and RK-4058.
